2026-27

Due to the success of last year, we are excited to continue the Pop-Up Pool intensive swimming programme for 2025-2026. Children gave positive feedback, sharing that having regular swimming lessons over a short period helped boost their confidence in the water. In addition to the intensive programme, children can still access extracurricular swimming lessons, as previously offered, and use the pool during the six-week holidays through the HAF programme. This initiative was hugely successful in providing catch-up lessons for less confident swimmers in other year groups or those who did not meet the national curriculum standard. It also helped reduce travel time and minimise disruption to the wider curriculum, supporting better learning outcomes across the school.

The Aims of the Swimming Lessons

All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key Stage 1 or 2.

The National Curriculum states that...

  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl and back crawl
  • It is important that your child attends their swimming lesson each week.
